6/26-27/2010 Moses Lake
Club Tournament Interviews

The fourth club tournament of the year was headquartered out of Blue Heron Park on the west side of the lake just off of I-90.  The weather was great with temperatures rising to the mid eighties each day with sunny skies and mild winds.  Just perfect weather in comparison to how the weather had been in western Washington.  Water temperatures ranged from the low to mid seventies.   We had 14 boats with 23 members and guests fishing.  There was also a ABA tournament with 20 plus boats that launched out of Cascade Park on Saturday.   There were 4 limits with 70 fish including 14 largemouths that averaged 2.46 pounds caught on Saturday as compared to 2 limits with 51 fish including 6 largemouths that averaged 1.96 pounds.  So the pressure from Saturday reduced the number of fish and largemouths brought to scales on Sunday.  All in all most anglers were pleased with the size of the fish caught.
Bryan Vance was the winner with 26.82 pounds.  Bryan blew away the field with 22.6 pounds on Saturday.  He set a club record for the most weight in a club tournament for a single day.  He said he also had over 12 pounds of smallies on Saturday along with the 5 largemouths he caught flipping a jig in the tulies on the main lake.  He struggled on Sunday with 3 smallies and didn't catch a keeper after 8 am but still won by over two and half pounds.

In second place with 24.13 pounds was Ken Ganancial.  Kenny weighed 3 smallies and 1 largemouth each day.  On Saturday he was primarily drop shotting for smallmouths in 8 -12 feet but was alsoable to catch a largemouth.  On Sunday he targeted largemouths on the main lake in shallow water with a tube.  Not only did he bring in a 5.13 largemouth but he caught 3 good smallies with this technique but had the big bag of the day on Sunday by over 4 pounds.
Frank White finished third with
20.95 pounds and the big fish weighing 5.44 pounds that he caught on Saturday.  The 5.44 pound largemouth took over the lead for the big fish of the year.  Frank started out fishing for smallies but after not getting bit for a while he switched to targeting largemouths.  He caught 3 largemouths on Saturday and one on Sunday flipping a jig in the tulies.   He said, "My fish came primarily on jigs and Carolina rigs.  My favorite is black and blue but green pumpkin seemed to be the color this time.  I like to fish Moses in what I call depressions.  The fish seem to get a lot less pressure there.  I did try and draw them out with spinner baits with no luck."

Finishing fourth with 20.30 pounds was Jaymee Strasbaugh.  Jaymee was mostly drop shoting small plastics along main lake rocky areas in approximately 15 feet.  Jaymee said he threw a big motor prop blade early Sunday morning and and consequently fished the main lake shore just north of the boat launch.  He did manage four fish in that area.

In fifth place was Mike Peters with 19.67 pounds.  Mike was the only angler the bring a limit to the scales each day.  He had a good bag of 12.74 pounds on Saturday that went down to 6.93 pounds on Saturday.  He said the bite was off and size of the fish smaller on Sunday.  He concentrated on the north part of the lake throwing a drop shot rig in 5 to 10 feet along the rocky shoreline.
