2/24-25/2010 Lake Washington
Club Tournament Interviews

The second club tournament of the year saw 30 club members and guests with 20 boats on Lake Washington.  Fishing on Lake Washington was difficult with only 5 limits caught on the 2 days.  The 5:50 am Saturday blast off saw 19 boats with water temperatures in the lower 50's with water temperatures rising to 54  to 55 degrees.  The wind blew up to 25 MPH on Saturday making main lake fishing very difficult especially with overcast and periods of light rain.  There were 2 limits weighed on Saturday and 3 on Sunday with the bite  generally reported as below normal.  Largemouth fishing was tough with only 4 Largemouths weighed in for both days.  One casualty was reported on Saturday.  Mike Buse reportedly speared a wave and suffered damage to his front electronics.  That along with a blown cylinder topped off a bummer day for Mike.

In First Place with 26.88 Pounds was Tom Melowitz.  Tom fished in the Newport canals for 2 days throwing a Sniper Lures snub on a drop shot rig.  He said he had 6 bites on Saturday and 5 on Sunday.  Most bites were very subtle with the fish eating the bait rather than a reaction bite.    Tom said he threw various reaction baits in the canals over the 2 days but never had a bite on anything but the drop shot rig.  Tom was able to catch a limit on both days with only 3 other limits weighed.  Most fish were up against the banks rather than out in the middle of the canals.

Finishing second with 23.38 Pounds was Jaymee Strasbaugh.  Jaymee fished main lake points on the south end of the lake on Saturday throwing a drop shot rig and a tube.  He was able to scrape out a limit by the end of the day.  On Sunday Jaymee was fishless at 8:30 am while fishing the main lake.  He went into Newport and was able to catch a limit drop shotting by 1:00 pm.  Jaymee said he should have gone into Newport earlier.

In 3rd Place with 18.56 pounds was Bryan Vance.  Bryan caught his only fish in Newport late on Saturday.  On Sunday he threw jerk baits on points on the south end of the lake and caught 6 fish by 9:00 am when they stopped biting.  He later caught a largemouth on a texas rigged worm and a 3 pound smallie in the afternoon on a drop shot rig in the canals.  He had the big bag of the tournament, 15.50 pounds, on Sunday.

Finishing 4th with 14.44 Pounds was Lee Jones.  Lee had 4 fish on Saturday weigh in over 9 pounds.  This was his first top 5 finish in a club tournament.  Lee said, ".....

Rounding out the top 5 was Ken Ganancial with 12.81 pounds.  Kenny caught one fish on Saturday morning on the main  lake with hula grub on a football head and another in the canals on a drop shot.  He caught all of his Sunday drop shotting in Newport.

Dez Ruffin had the big Fish.  A 4.88  Pound Smallie.   Dez said, "I
threw a Bomber 7A crank in Craw color , running depth on the crank is 5-10ft .. I also had on the New KVD mustad triple Treb Hooks which are awsome for all Hard Baits.  The new shorter shank on those hooks made a great hook up with all of my crankbait fish!   I was fishing the 520 Brdige pilings in about 10ft of water on Saturday.  We had just pulled up to get ready to do some LMB fishing when I decided to make a cast by the pilings with my crank.  On my first cast  WHACK!!   Needless to say we didn't get chance to do any LMB fishing we just continued to crank the pilings ".
